Building A Legacy Of Compassionate Care
About Coast Hospice
Since 1987, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society has provided skilled support, education, and advocacy for local residents facing advancing illness, death and grief, and those who love them.
With the help of 100+ trained volunteers and a generous community of loyal donors, we offer free community programs and resources including the Green Sleeve advance care planning resource kit, community workshops, and “Living With Dying,” a six-part film series.
In the past year, Coast Hospice volunteers donated 10,700 hours to the delivery of our community programs, services, public outreach events and to various aspects of the Mossy Rock Hospice project.
A NEW HOSPICE AT MOSSY ROCK
In September 2024, in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society acquired a beautiful 1.5 acre residential property in Roberts Creek, where we are developing an eight-suite hospice. This will double the number of hospice beds on the lower Sunshine Coast, and create the first dedicated sanctuary for all residents nearing end of life and those who love and support them.
Sunshine Coast Hospice Society will own and maintain the building and provide supportive services to residents and families, while Vancouver Coastal Health will provide the medical care.
COMFORT AND DIGNITY ON THE COAST
End of life can be a time of difficult decision making. With only four temporary palliative beds at a long term care facility in Sechelt, some Sunshine Coast residents whose families are not able to cope at home may be faced with entering hospital or leaving their community. With your help, no one will have to make this choice.
A HOME FOR HOSPICE
Volunteers, staff , and medical practitioners at the hospice will provide holistic, compassionate care for residents so their loved ones might find a measure of control, fulfillment and peace.
The purpose-built home will accommodate people nearing end of life as well as people who are palliative but still at home and need short term respite care or symptom management.
Suites will have space for a family member or friend to stay, with a washroom, a small fridge for favourite meals, and open shelves for photos and keepsakes. Large windows will look out to the beautiful surrounding gardens.
Other amenities include:
• A welcoming lounge with soft seating for family and friends
• A play area with toys, games and art supplies for young children
• A spa bathing room with Arjo Assisted Bathing Tub to ease pain and soothe anxiety
• A well-appointed kitchen for shared moments over meals, snacks, and endless tea and coffee
• Peaceful gardens for reflection and connection with nature, and an indoor sacred space
• A comfortable, fully furnished suite for out-of-town family and friends to rest
• A quiet room for conversations between members of the care team and families
• Laundry facilities for families.
