TOGETHER, Let’s Open The Doors to Mossy Rock Hospice and Keep Our Loved Ones Close

Every one of us will know someone who needs this kind of care—a parent, a partner, a friend, perhaps even ourselves. Mossy Rock Hospice will provide a legacy of compassionate care for all of us, and for generations to come. Join us!

– ELLEN ADELBERG, BOARD PRESIDENT AND DONOR, COAST HOSPICE

LET’S OPEN THE DOORS TO COMPASSION AND CARE

End of life can be a time of profound emotional distress and difficult decision-making. With only four temporary hospice beds located in a long-term care centre on the Sunshine Coast, families who can no longer cope at home could be faced with entering the hospital or relocating to the Mainland. With your help, no one will have to make that choice.

With a dedicated home for hospice care on the Sunshine Coast, families will be able to navigate this challenging time with the support they deserve. In 2024, in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society acquired a beautiful 1.5-acre residential property in Roberts Creek to develop a purpose-built hospice.

Mossy Rock Hospice will be the Sunshine Coast’s first and only purpose-built home for individuals nearing end of life and those who love and support them. This new home will double our community’s capacity to provide hospice and palliative support and strengthen the services already offered through our program centre in Davis Bay and in the community.

Features include

  • Eight prvate suites

  • Well-equipped central kitchen and coffee nook

  • Tranquil gardens

  • A family room

  • A spa bathing room with a tub to ease pain and soothe anxiety

JOIN US TODAY!

We are nearing completion thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors and the unstoppable dedication of our community’s volunteers, trades, and businesses. We have less than $400K to raise to achieve our $7.85 million goal. This is our chance. A home for hospice has never been this close to reality. This home will serve the Coast for generations to come. We invite everyone who values the Sunshine Coast to make a special one-time gift for a lasting impact on this wonderful place.

We welcome pledges spread over 1 or 2 years. Gifts $1,000 and above will be recognized on a permanent installation in the hospice garden.

YOUR GIFT WILL BE MATCHED

The first donations totalling $100,000 will be matched by a group of generous donors. This means your gift will go twice as far in helping us reach our goal! Every donation matters.

MOSSY ROCK HOSPICE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE

My brother wanted to die at Kelowna Hospice House where his family could be with him while his care and comfort was managed by medical staff. The hospice halls were quiet, and the staff were calm and friendly. It felt safe. There were no machines, no beeping or loud noises, just a calm, home-like atmosphere. This allowed us to focus on providing loving touch and conversation to ease his journey home. I am so proud that our Sunshine Coast community will have Mossy Rock Hospice, so my friends and neighbours will have the chance to receive the same compassionate support when the time comes.

BUILDING ON A LEGACY OF COMPASSIONATE CARE

Since 1987, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society has provided skilled support, education, and advocacy for local residents, regardless of circumstances and choices, as they face advancing illness, death and grief, and for those who love them. With the help of 100+ trained volunteers and a generous community of loyal donors, we offer free community programs, services and resources, including the Green Sleeve advance care planning resource kit, community workshops and “Living with Dying,” a six-part film series. Last year, volunteers donated more than 10,000 hours.

We also offer programs and services for grief support, bereavement, and advance care planning, with the assistance of trained community volunteers. In partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, we are working towards opening the Coast’s first dedicated residential hospice in 2026.
